Understanding Reading

Provides strategies for teaching, assessment and intervention. Teachers are given materials to assess a child. These assessments are interpreted and used as the basis for discussion of intervention strategies.

INSET covers:
  • How children learn to read
  • Current research on how to teach children to read
  • Addressing word level objectives
  • Why reading problems occur
  • Assessment of reading difficulties
  • Strategies for overcoming reading difficulties
